House in la Ametlla de Mar

Listening to the Mediterranean

01

The plot is located on the seafront, just over a small cove, in the municipality of Ametlla de Mar. The Mediterranean breeze caresses this project located in a privileged setting from which the sound of the waves can be heard.

The house opens up to the east orientation, where it has its largest overtures, to contemplate the views of the sea. In the south orientation it has a neighbour, and less views. The openings in this orientation, are managed through patios, walls, porches and louvers, looking for balance between, light, views and privacy.

Although the regulations limited the occupation of the plot, the project extends out thanks to a series of cantilevers in some cases hollowed up, which protect he facades, and accentuate the horizontality of The facade combines a large plinth made of dry-stacked stone on the ground floor, a continuous façade on the first floor, with a sate finish and lime mortars, which gives the upper volume an interesting texture. The colours adapt to the surrounding land, to integrate with its direct environment, and merge with the coastal landscape. The use of slats and wood cladding, forming pergolas and openings, allow us to control sunlight and provides privacy with respect to the neighbour and the street.

The project is completely Mediterranean, with outdoor areas to enjoy the sun and the shade. The local earthy tones of the facade, the dry-stacked stone, pergolas, louvers, and exterior stone walls, and the landscaping made out of crushed stones, native and aromatic plants, gives the project a rooted and local character.

The road access to the basement floor is made through the north side of the house. On this floor there is parking and study rooms with natural light thanks to a set of west-facing patios full of creepers and vines, On the ground floor there are a couple of bedrooms and the open living-dining room-kitchen area, which face the pool and the best views. A large sliding door that hides inside the wall and the continuous pavement indoors and outdoors allows for a seamless connection with the exterior, with the garden and the views. On the first floor we find the master bedroom, with a small previous living that opens onto the terrace, the dressing room, and a bathroom.
